It is applicable to the testing of dyestuffs applied to dyed, printed or otherwise colored textile fibres, yarns and fabrics and textiles of all kinds.
Study by the RA52 Committee showed that this test would correlate with limited fieldwork. Before that, there were acid and alkali tests; however, as a result of these studies, the alkali test was abolished.
