AATCC 42 Water Resistance - Impact Penetration Test Method

The results obtained with this test method depend on the water repellency of the fibers and yarns and the structure and finish of the fabric. Some water is sprayed onto a taut surface of a test specimen supported by a weighted blotter. The blotter is then reweighed to determine water penetration and the sample is classified accordingly.

The AATCC 42 Water resistance standard includes specifications and test methods for any textile fabric with or without a water-repellent or water-repellent coating. During this test, the resistance of the fabrics to water penetration is measured and the possible resistance of the fabrics to rain is determined. This standard is specifically used to measure the penetration resistance of clothing fabrics. The results obtained with this test method depend on the water repellency of the fibers and yarns, the structure of the fabric and the finishing processes.

The spray effect and waterproofing properties of the fabrics are determined by the mentioned standard. For this purpose, some water is sprayed onto the stretched surface of a test sample supported by a predetermined blotter. The blotter is then weighed once more to determine the water penetration and the sample is classified according to the weight difference.

Impact penetration tester is used for this purpose in advanced laboratories. This device is for determining the resistance of the fabric to water penetration, i.e. the possible resistance of fabrics to rain penetration.
