EUROLAB laboratory provides testing and compliance services within the scope of ISO 105-B08 standard. This standard describes a method for performing quality control of production batches of blue wool reference materials 1 to 7 to be used in the appropriate parts of the test methods for light fastness.
The method can also be applied to white (bleached or optically brightened) textiles. This method allows the use of two different blue wool reference sets. Results from two different reference sets may not be the same.
The textile sample to be tested is exposed to artificial light under controlled conditions with a set of reference materials. Color fastness is evaluated by comparing the change in color of the test sample with that of the reference materials used.
When testing specimens of considerable thickness, the references should be arranged so that the top surface of the test specimens is at the same distance from the light source. Covers for non-exposed portions will prevent surface compaction.
Textiles of significant thickness, with fibers that can change position or texture which may complicate the assessment of small areas, should be tested with an open area of not less than 50 mm x 40 mm, preferably larger.
Textile samples are exposed to light and water spray from a xenon arc lamp under certain conditions. At the same time, the eight dyed wool references are exposed to light but protected from water spray by a windowpane. Fastness is evaluated by comparing the change in color of the sample with that of the references.
