ASME PVHO-1 Safety Standard for Pressure Vessels for Human Use

This Standard provides requirements for the design, manufacture, inspection, testing, marking and stamping of pressure vessels for human use with an internal or external pressure difference exceeding 2 psi.

ASME PVHO-1 Safety Standard for Pressure Vessels for Human Use

This Standard also provides requirements for the design, manufacture, inspection, testing, cleanliness and certification of piping systems for PVHOs. A PVHO is a pressure vessel that keeps a human within the pressure limit while under internal or external pressure exceeding a differential pressure of 2 psi.

PVHOs include, but are not limited to, divers, diving bells, personnel transfer pods, decompression chambers, recompression chambers, hyperbaric chambers, high altitude chambers, and medical hyperbaric oxygenation facilities.

The pressure limit of the PVHO will be as follows:

  • Weld end joint for first peripheral connection for welded joints
  • First threaded connection for screw connections
  • Face of first flange for bolted, flanged connections
  • First sealing surface for proprietary connections or fittings
