ASTM G154 Standard Practice for Operating Fluorescent Ultraviolet Lamp Apparatus for Exposure of Non-Metallic Materials

This standard covers the basic principles and operating procedures for the use of fluorescent UV light and water devices to reproduce the weathering effects of materials exposed to sunlight (directly or through window glass) and to moisture as rain or dew in actual use.

This standard is limited to procedures for obtaining, measuring and controlling exposure conditions. A number of exposure procedures are listed in an appendix; however, this application does not specify the optimal exposure conditions for the material to be tested.

Standard G151 describes performance criteria for all exposure devices using laboratory light sources. This application replaces Application G53, which defines very specific designs for devices used for fluorescent UV exposures. The apparatus described in application G53 is within the scope of this application.

Test samples are exposed to fluorescent UV light under controlled environmental conditions. Different types of fluorescent UV light sources are described.
