Any non-fibrous material is removed by appropriate pretreatment. If the fiber components do not form a tight mixture and can be easily separated by hand, the analysis is done according to the procedure.

If part or all of the textile consists of a close blend of two fiber types, one of the components is removed using an appropriate method following the appropriate procedure given and the proportion of this component is calculated from the mass loss. Wherever possible, it is preferable to remove the larger proportion of fiber, thereby obtaining a smaller proportion of fiber as residue.

If part or all of the textile consists of a close blend of the three fiber types, the above process is repeated using a second reagent.

After identifying the components of the fiber blend, including the composition of the individual yarns, the non-fibrous material is removed by appropriate pretreatment, and then the components are manually separated, dried and weighed to calculate the proportion of each fiber in it.
