BS 5229 Method for Determining the Tufting Pull of Carpets

EUROLAB, with its state-of-the-art accredited laboratories and expert team, provides precise and fast testing services within the scope of BS 5229 testing. This British standard describes a method for determining the tuft pulling force and is applicable to all carpets with a cut or loop pile yarn structure.

BS 5229 Method for Determining the Tufting Pull of Carpets

A loop is hung or one end of a tuft is held and the maximum force recorded during removal is recorded.

Take samples from at least five locations across the width of the selected carpet to represent the material tested according to BS 4664. Condition samples for not less than 24 hours in standard atmosphere to test textiles as defined.

Cut the samples to a size suitable for clamping on the test machine and allowing at least 10 tufts to be removed from each. No tufts shall be removed within 25 mm from the edge of a sample or any previously drawn cluster.

Calculate the average pinch pull force in Newtons and the coefficient of variation for all results, separately excluding any marked "broken" results. If there is a significant difference between results from different fields, this should be reported.
