BS 5430-2 Periodic Inspection, Testing and Maintenance of Portable Gas Containers (Excluding Dissolved Acetylene Containers) Specification for Welded Steel Containers with Water Capacity from 0,5 L to 150 L

This part of BS 5430 specifies requirements for the periodic inspection, testing and maintenance of portable welded steel gas receptacles for vessels with a water capacity of 0,5 L to 150 L; it also applies, as far as possible, to vessels with a water capacity of less than 0,5 L.

BS 5430-2 Periodic Inspection, Testing and Maintenance of Portable Gas Containers (Excluding Dissolved Acetylene Containers) Specification for Welded Steel Containers with Water Capacity from 0,5 L to 150 L

This part of BS 5430 contains requirements for welded steel gas cylinders used for liquefied petroleum gas. Users of such cylinders reserved for use with LPG may instead apply the requirements of BS EN 1439 and EN 1440.

Inspection is an inspection by a qualified person using appropriate equipment but does not include hydraulic pressure testing.

The owner, user or filler of gas containers cannot avoid the obligation to ensure that their container is not damaged or corroded at all times and will dispatch anyone suspected of damage or corrosion for further inspection and testing before the stipulated time has elapsed.

If a container is inspected and tested when first received by a filler after the specified interval, the inspection and testing requirement must be met. The containers to be inspected and tested shall be determined from the date of manufacture or the last periodic test date marked on the container or valve. The date will be indicated as one month and one year, or one quarter and one year, or annually.

A container will be due for inspection and testing when first received by a filler after the expiry of the expiry of the period stamped on the container. For example, if the container was tested in March 1984 and is stamped with the year and quarter, subject to a five-year testing interval, it would be eligible for retesting when first received by a filler after March 31, 1989.
