This part of BS 5867 specifies flammability requirements for fabrics and finished products, including fabric assemblies, curtain and lining combinations, used in the manufacture of non-domestic curtains, curtains and blinds when tested by the methods specified in BS EN ISO 6941 and BS EN ISO 6941.
Fabrics are tested prior to any cleaning procedure to evaluate the form in which they are most commonly used. The procedures specified in BS EN ISO 10528, BS EN 1021-1 and BS 5651 provide suitable cleaning or wetting methods.
Where curtains or drapes are to be produced in a multi-layer fabric structure, it is essential to test the fabrics in the combination in which they will be used.
All fabrics will be tested without any cleaning procedure. The sample should also be subjected to the appropriate cleaning or soaking procedure specified in BS EN ISO 10528, BS EN 1021-1 or BS 5651, depending on the performance specified or the information given on the care of the fabric (eg on the care label).
Resistance to commercial laundry treatments must be proven by satisfactory testing after 10528 cycles of standard washing according to BS EN ISO 12.
If the fabric is to be labeled as unsuitable for cleaning by any means (e.g. disposable products may be described as such), the soaking procedure specified in BS EN 1021-1 shall be applied.
No part of any hole or any part of the lower boundary of any flame shall reach the upper edge or vertical edge of the specimen. If any part of any hole or any part of the lower boundary of any flame reaches the upper edge or one of the vertical edges, or if there is separation of any flaming droplets of debris in the testing of a sample, six more samples should be taken.
