Steel Mold Qualification

EUROLAB offers steel mold qualification services to various sectors. It includes various capabilities including mold steel qualification, impact testing, heat treatment and metallography.

Among the many reasons for reducing mold life, the two main contributing factors are poor material quality and incorrect heat treatment. The element uses a series of tests to confirm the quality of the mold steel plate and rods.

These include:

  • Verify that the material has a sufficiently low hardness and acceptable microstructure after spheroidizing annealing
  • Rating inclusion cleaning
  • Rating the degree of microsgregation and banding
  • Performing heat treatments, hardness test
  • Charpy impact testing is done to verify that it meets minimum impact energy requirements and can be heat treated correctly.

In qualifying commercially heat treated molds, EUROLAB also determines the Charpy impact strength, hardness, and microstructure degree of test coupons fitted with mold inserts and heat treated.

EUROLAB performs H207 mold steel testing according to North American Casting Alliance (NADCA) Specification # 2003-2010, Ford Specification AMTD-DC9999 and GM's Worldwide Specification DC-1-13.

EUROLAB is one of the few commercial laboratories that perform this test.
