DIN 18250 Test Standard for Mortise Locks for Fire Protection and Smoke Protection Doors

EUROLAB laboratory provides testing and compliance services within the scope of DIN 18250 standard. The DIN 18250 standard applies to mortise locks on single-leaf doors and active-leaf mortise locks on double-leaf doors. Locks according to this standard meet the requirements for the safe operation of certain types of fire protection and smoke protection hoods, even in the event of fire. The use of locks according to this standard is regulated in DIN standards or general technical approvals for fire protection barriers.

DIN 18250 Test Standard for Mortise Locks for Fire Protection and Smoke Protection Doors

For the application of this standard, those specified in DIN 18251-1, DIN 18251-2 and DIN 18251-3 apply. General tolerances according to DIN ISO 2768-1 apply to dimensions without tolerance. The principle of independence according to DIN ISO 8015 applies as a tolerance principle.

Mortise locks for fire and smoke control doors should be verified to conform to the specified dimensions and requirements and to the dimensions, tolerances and specifications given in the manufacturer's drawings. Mortise locks for fire protection and smoke protection doors must be tested according to the relevant standard DIN 18251-1, DIN 18251-2 or DIN 18251-3, where the long-term functional test must also be carried out on at least 3 mortise locks.

However, contrary to what is specified in DIN 18251, the test door must be equipped with a door handle set according to DIN 18273 and closed without braking with a torque of 20 Nm ± 1 Nm. To test the corrosion resistance, insert a new lock into a plastic test block corresponding to the assembly condition of the lock.
mounted and subjected to the salt spray test in accordance with ISO 9227 in the mounting position.

After the salt spray test has been performed, the latch spring forces should still meet the requirements. For a series of locks, proof of conformity for fire protection doors is deemed to have been provided if the fire test of DIN EN 1634-1 has been passed with the lock in the most unfavorable design variant in terms of fire testing. During fire testing, the highest fire resistance class must be verified for doors brought in by building authorities.

During the tests, the bolt should not be pre-closed, meaning the latch should be the only lock component that keeps the door closed. Proof of conformity for smoke protection doors for a series of locks is deemed to have been provided if the smoke protection test according to DIN EN 1634-3 classification S200 has been verified. This verification can be dispensed with if materials with a melting point of at least 300 °C are used for all functionally important parts of the mortise lock.

If the materials used in the lock correspond to materials proven to be suitable for use in fire protection doors or smoke protection doors, the relevant test is not required.
