It aims at classification of fire behavior and fire side effects, testing methods, as well as defining the requirements for materials and components necessary for preventive fire protection.
This standard applies to rail vehicles (hereinafter referred to as vehicles) covered by the railway construction and operating regulations (EBO), the railway construction and operating regulations (ESBO) for narrow gauge railways, and the maglev construction and operating regulations.
In order to classify the combustion behavior of materials and components and the side effects of fire (smoke formation, drip behavior), flammability, smoke generation and dripping ability classes are established and toxicity indicators are determined in the form of allowable exposure times.
These classes are used to define requirements for flammability and fire side effects for components and materials fitted to vehicles.
Samples should be clearly identified. In the case of unspecified molded part geometries, basic dimensions and dimensions can be included in drawings, sketches, etc. should be specified. The thickness of standard test specimens should always be specified. In addition, the structure and material composition of the test specimens will be explained. For samples that are asymmetrical in the thickness direction, the side exposed to the flame should be specified.
