DIN 55635-2019-05 Coating Materials - Cyclic Corrosion Test of Coating Systems on Materials and Components in Automotive Engineering

DIN 55635 standard prepared by the German Standards Institute offers a cyclic corrosion test method for testing the corrosion protection of automobiles in the automotive industry using coating systems. The full name of this standard is as follows: DIN 55635: 2019-05 Coating materials - Cyclic corrosion test of coating systems on materials and components in automotive engineering.

DIN 55635-2019-05 Kaplama Malzemeleri - Otomotiv Mühendisliğinde Malzemeler ve Bileşenler Üzerindeki Kaplama Sistemlerinin Döngüsel Korozyon Testi

The test method described in this standard is based on actual corrosive climatic conditions, namely temperature and humidity cycles, and provides different results for a large number of uses in the automotive industry.

The test method described in the DIN 55635 standard causes corrosion processes and creates corrosion patterns in coated components typical for automobiles. These models are compared with sufficiently similar protective coating systems.

Especially accelerated testing applications investigate corrosion and delamination creep caused by defined artificial damage to the coating. Delamination is the separation of the layers that make up the composite. Creep is plastic deformation that occurs under constant temperature and long-term constant tensile or compression loads.

Surface and edge corrosion on special test plates, adhesive specimens or components is also a form of coating.

This cyclic corrosion test is considered suitable for corrosion testing in flanged areas or near cavities.

The DIN 55635: 2019-05 standard is designed for the evaluation of coated substrates in the automotive industry. However, the following applications are not covered by this standard: hot-dip galvanized components in batches, hot-dip aluminized components, or components protected by zinc flakes.

In addition, this standard is not used for evaluating the corrosion resistance of metals and alloys. For the assessment of the corrosion resistance of metals and alloys, the following standard is taken into account: DIN 50937: 2019-03 Corrosion of metals and alloys - Comparison of accelerated corrosion test methods and their suitability for different application areas and corrosion protection systems.

With the experience gained over many years, our organization also provides cyclic corrosion testing services of coating systems on materials and components in automotive engineering, in accordance with DIN 55635: 2019-05 standard, within the framework of laboratory services of materials with a trained and expert staff.
