The DIN 73378 standard is mainly applied to pipes made of polyamides used as fuel transport lines in motor vehicles. It takes into account the general conditions of motor vehicles. In case of doubt, the applicability of the pipes should be agreed between the user and the manufacturer.
The pipes are produced using the extrusion process and, due to their single-layer construction, can be used mainly in the area of low and medium operating pressures. The pressure utilization rating indicates the current percentage of use of the equivalent voltage over the specified temperature ranges based on 23 °C.
Equivalent stress is a material parameter that is independent of pipe dimensions and is calculated from the burst pressure of the pipe determined under internal pressure using the equation. Physical and chemical properties are tested on pipes or test samples taken from pipes.
Unless otherwise specified, tests may be carried out within 24 hours at the latest after pipes have been manufactured or conditioned. During testing, the customer must ensure that the water content of the raw material in the delivery is still present at the time of testing. Appropriate storage conditions and packaging should be chosen to be agreed between the supplier and the customer. Pipes are stabilized against the effects of sunlight (UV rays) by adding suitable UV stabilizers and soot.
Experience has shown that the most effective UV stabilization is achieved by adding carbon black. Pipes and pipelines to DIN 74324-1 and coiled pipes to DIN 74323 must be sufficiently stabilized by the addition of carbon black. Stabilization is provided against thermal aging by adding suitable stabilizers.
Extractable fractions for all materials may consist of monomers, oligomers, stabilizers, water and plasticizers that are soluble under test conditions.
