EN 10080 specifies general requirements for ribbed weldable reinforcing steel used for reinforcing concrete structures.
The standard covers steel delivered in bar, coil (bar, wire) and uncoiled products. The standard contains the details of the definitions, test methods, assessment and definition of conformity of the manufacturer and technical grade, provisions for the three steel grades, all 500 MPa characteristic yield strength, but different ductility properties.
Steel products according to this standard have a ribbed, recessed or smooth surface.

Ribbed and recessed steel products within the scope of this European standard are characterized by their surface geometry, thereby providing adhesion to concrete. The bond property requirements for ribbed and recessed reinforcing steels will be based on surface geometry.
Alternatively, the bond property requirements of ribbed and recessed reinforcing steels can be determined by appropriate bond tests. The evaluation criteria for these tests should be as given in the appropriate product specification or design standard. In this case, provisions will also be made for establishing factory production control requirements for surface geometry based on bond test results.
