This type of coating is generally used for the pressure or gravity transportation and distribution of waters, seawater, wastewater, as well as fire waters intended for human consumption and industrial use. The temperature of the transported water usually does not exceed 50°C.
The choice of primer and its usage limits depend on the type of product used, the pipe laying conditions, the temperature of the liquid and its chemical composition. The selection and quality of the product for the medium to be transported is not part of this European standard.
The primer normally consists of a layer of liquid product applied by the spray airless technique after surface preparation. If agreed by the purchaser and the coater, all or part of the requirements of this European standard may be applied to the inner linings of the fittings.
This European standard coating can be applied to longitudinal or spirally welded pipes and seamless steel pipes used in the construction of pipelines to transport liquids.
These tubes are not designed to bend after the epoxy primer has been applied. This European standard does not cover in situ or rehabilitation primers.
The materials that make up epoxy primers, when used in permanent or temporary contact with water intended for human consumption, under the conditions for which they are designed, must not alter the quality of that water in a way that does not conform to the requirements.
