This European standard specifies a procedure for determining the flame propagation of textiles for curtains and drapes by testing a vertically oriented sample according to EN ISO 6941.
The test specimens shall represent the materials used in the complete curtains and drapes in accordance with the number and size of the test specimens specified in EN ISO 6941.
The sample should undergo the cleaning procedure specified on the care label. If no cleaning procedures are prescribed, the material should be subjected to a cycle of cleaning procedures in accordance with the fabric.
If the fabric is not intended to be cleaned, the test method should be carried out on the sample and samples taken. This cleaning is not intended as a durability test for flame retardant treatment, but only to remove non-durable finishes or contamination and to obtain fabric surface and structure properties that are representative of those typically achieved with fabrics during actual use.
The samples will consist of one or more layers of material according to the structure of the curtain. Unless otherwise specified, the sample, seams, marking threads are spun from pure cotton with a linear density of (45 ± 5) tex. However, when they are a specific part of the fabric, such as Jacquard construction, the test sample should include pattern or design features.
