The test is carried out at a certain temperature or sequentially at different temperatures to determine the flow resistance limit.
Therefore, the test can be used to provide evidence of the flow resistance required for a product or to determine the product-specific flow resistance limit, for example to determine the change in this behavior as a result of artificial aging. The test cannot be applied to unreinforced bitumen sheets.
This European standard is designed for the characterization or classification of bituminous sheets produced or put into use. The test method relates only to products or, where appropriate, their components and not to workplace-mounted waterproof membrane systems consisting of such products.
This test is used to determine the flow resistance of the pavement or to determine the flow resistance limit of a bitumen board. The test result depends on the type of coating, the sheet thickness, the type and location of the reinforcement, and the type and mass of granules on the surface.
The use of test results to directly compare the performance of the coating on boards of different composition is strictly limited due to the influence of other unquantified parameters. Results from layers of the same composition can be used to directly compare the performance of the coating.
The test primarily serves to characterize bituminous layers. It can also be used to evaluate the change in the flow resistance limit as a result of artificial aging. It is not recommended to directly correlate test results with actual expected performance in service at high temperatures.
