EN 1015-11 Test Methods for Masonry Mortar, Determination of Flexural and Compressive Strength of Hardened Mortar

The flexural strength of mortar is determined by loading hardened molded mortar prism specimens from three points to failure. The compressive strength of the mortar is determined on two pieces obtained from the flexural strength test. Where flexural strength is not required, parts for compressive strength testing can be produced from prisms without damaging these parts.

Test samples will be 160 mm X 40 mm X 40 mm prisms. Three samples will be provided. For the compressive strength test, divide the prisms into two halves to get six half prisms.

Test the specimen 28 days after casting, or more if retarding agents have been added to the mortar, unless otherwise specified, and immediately after removal from the storage atmosphere or after flexural strength testing.

Remove loose sand or other material from the edges of the sample as castings. Wipe the bearing surface and bearing plates of the test machine and the gauge with a clean cloth and place the sample in the machine with the sample applied to one of the load faces.
