EN 846-7 Auxiliary Components for Masonry - Part 7: Test for Determination of Shear Load Capacity and Load Displacement Properties of Shear Ties and Sliding Ties

EUROLAB, with its state-of-the-art accredited laboratories and expert team, provides precise and fast testing services within the scope of EN 846-7 testing. This European standard specifies the double method for determining the horizontal and vertical shear load resistance and load-deflection behavior of shear ties and sliding ties embedded in mortar joints. The test is designed for bonds used to connect two wall sheets forming a sleeve jointed wall or two walls at right angles.

It also applies to the ties used to attach the edges of infill panel walls to the frames that surround them.

One end of the bond is embedded in a typical mortar joint of the type where the bond is specified, between a pair (pair) of typical masonry units. The bond is then clamped at its free end and sheared against a reactive support for coupling. Slip ties can be tested in the same way.

Masonry units will be as specified. All wall units will be taken from the same consignment for individual testing or coupling samples. Wall units shall be in the air-dried condition unless otherwise specified.

The instrument must apply a shear force to the sample. The top plate of the universal testing machine should be equipped with a rigidly connected column and clamp used to apply the load to the terminal. The coupling specimen in the prestress clamp, the bottom plate of the test machine, and the support must be extended along the major axis of the testing machine to prevent any rotation of the coupling assembly.

Each of the ten ties must be tested in horizontal or vertical shear as required by EN 845-1. For asymmetrical ties, both ends for both types of ties are intended to be inserted into the wall and ten ties must be tested in either a horizontal shear or a vertical shear as required by EN 845-1.
