ISO 3865 Test Methods for Dyeing in Contact with Rubber, Vulcanized or Thermoplastic, Organic Material

EUROLAB laboratory provides testing and compliance services within the scope of ISO 3865 standard. ISO 3865 specifies three methods for estimating the staining of organic lacquers with vulcanized or thermoplastic rubber:

ISO 3865 Test Methods for Dyeing in Contact with Rubber, Vulcanized or Thermoplastic, Organic Material

  • Method A (contact and migration staining);
  • Method B (extraction staining);
  • Method C (penetration staining).

When rubber comes into contact with organic materials such as paints, varnishes, plastics, or rubber under conditions of heat, pressure, and light, staining may occur on the surface that comes into contact with the rubber, the surface adjacent to the rubber, or the surface. In addition, in the presence of water, components of the rubber can leak out, which can subsequently cause staining on surfaces that the water comes into contact with.

Method A: The rubber to be tested is placed in direct contact with the specified organic material and then exposed to heat or artificial light.

Method B: The rubber to be tested is then exposed to a test liquid that comes into contact with the organic material. This may be followed by irradiation of organic material.

Method C: A light-coloured coating or varnish of the specified material is applied to the rubber to be tested and then exposed to heat and then artificial light.
