This European Standard specifies two options:
Prolonged water absorption with partial immersion is designed to simulate water absorption caused by prolonged exposure to water.
Long-term water absorption by full immersion is not directly related to on-site conditions, but has been accepted as a relevant test condition for some products in some applications.
