EN 12208 Windows and Doors - Waterproofing - Classification

This test method is designed to take into account conditions in use when the window or door assembly is installed in accordance with the manufacturer's specification and relevant European Standards and codes of practice. This European Standard does not apply to the joints between the window or door frame and the building construction.

Waterproofing is defined as the ability of the closed and fixed test specimen to resist water penetration (Pmax = waterproof limit) under test conditions up to a pressure.

Water penetration refers to the continuous or repeated wetting of the inside surface of the test specimen or parts that are not designed to get wet as the water flows back to the outer surface.

The waterproof limit determines the limit up to the maximum test pressure Pmax, the value at which the test specimen remains watertight under test conditions for the specified time.

Testing is carried out by continuously spraying a certain amount of water on the outer surface of the test sample while applying positive test pressure increments at regular intervals where details of the test pressure and location of water penetration are recorded.

This standard defines the method of classifying test results after determining the waterproofness of fully assembled windows and doors of any material.

This test method is designed to take into account the conditions in use when the window or door is installed in accordance with the manufacturer's specification and the requirements of the relevant European Standards and codes of practice. This standard does not apply to connections between the window or door frame and the window or door frame.
