EN 12281 Print and Business Paper, Copy Paper Requirements for Dry Toner Imaging Operations

EUROLAB laboratory provides testing and compliance services within the scope of EN 12281 standard. This European standard specifies performance requirements for uncoated cut-size paper (i.e. copy paper), 80 g/m2, and A20216 format according to EN 4 for dry toner imaging processes.

The paper used in dry toner imaging, which is the common copy paper, represents one of the most important classes of the world paper market. Most copiers, laser printers, and similar machines work with dry toner imaging. For simplicity, only the terms "copy paper" and "copier" are used.

It is not possible to describe the performance of a cheat sheet by physical properties alone. Therefore, CEN/TC 172 set aside a few technical paper characteristics and focused on defining and specifying the equivalents of "printability" and "runnability" as well as paper characteristics that appeal directly to the end user.

Some features were undervalued as a standard copier was not available and customer demands would change in terms of convenience and aesthetics. In such cases, however, test methods are provided to facilitate the conclusion of adequate agreements between the supplier and the customer.
