EUROLAB, with its state-of-the-art accredited laboratories and expert team, provides precise and fast testing services within the scope of EN 1230-1 testing. This European standard specifies the test method for evaluating the odor emitted by a paper or cardboard sample.

EN 1230-1 Paper and Cardboard Intended for Food Contact, Sensory Analysis, Part 1: Odor

It can be applied to all kinds of paper and cardboard, including coated or printed material intended to come into direct or indirect contact with foodstuffs. It does not apply to the determination of consumer preference.

The purpose of testing paper or cardboard for odor is to determine whether the material to be tested has an odor. The test serves to evaluate the sensory quality of paper and board. It is designed for food packaging or other contact with foodstuffs.

Test pieces of the material to be examined are stored in glass jars for 23 to 2 hours at (20 ± 24)°C in the dark. The smell of the air in the jars is estimated by a panel of selected evaluators. The intensity of the fragrance is evaluated on a scale of 0 to 4.
