EN 12310-1 Flexible Sheets for Waterproofing - Part 1: Bitumen Sheets for Waterproofing - Determination of Tear Resistance

EUROLAB laboratory provides testing and compliance services within the scope of EN 12310-1 standard. This part of the EN 12310 standard specifies a method for determining the nail shank tear resistance of bitumen sheets for roofing. The method is for initial type testing and/or quality control purposes.

EN 12310-1 Flexible Sheets for Waterproofing - Part 1: Bitumen Sheets for Waterproofing - Determination of Tear Resistance

This European Standard is designed for the characterization of bituminous sheets manufactured or supplied prior to use. The test method relates solely to products or, where appropriate, their components, and
It is not related to waterproof membrane systems installed in place.

This test is designed to be used in conjunction with the European Standards for product properties on reinforced and non-reinforced bitumen sheets for roof waterproofing. This European Standard specifies a method for determining the resistance tear (nail grip) of bitumen sheets for roofing.

The test measures the force required to tear a test specimen pierced by a nail handle with a force applied to the product at right angles to the handle axis.

Tensile Testing Machine

Tensile tester equipped with a continuous record of force and corresponding distance, which can maintain a uniform clutch release rate. The tensile tester must have a sufficient loading capacity (at least 100 N) and a sufficient clutch release distance with a clutch release rate of (10 ± 2000) mm per minute. The grip width should not be less than 100 mm.

The tensile tester should be equipped with jaws of the type that maintain or increase the grip pressure as a function of the increase in force applied to the specimen. The test specimen should be held in such a way that it does not slip more than 2 mm on the handles. To prevent slipping from grips exceeding 2 mm, the use of refrigerated grips will be permitted. The jaw system must not cause premature failure of the test specimen in the jaws or jaws.
