EN 12368 Traffic Control Equipment - Test Standard for Signal Heads

EUROLAB laboratory provides testing and compliance services within the scope of EN 12368 standard. This European Standard applies to signal heads with one or more signal lights with red, yellow or green colored signal lamps for road traffic with 200 mm and 300 mm round lines and optical units to be integrated into the signal heads to generate the individual signal.

Defines product specifications for visual, structural, environmental performance and testing of signal heads and optical units for use in pedestrian and road traffic.

The Signal Head describes a device consisting of an optical unit, including the body with all mounting brackets, fastenings, hoods, visors, cowls and background screens, whose task is to convey a visual message to vehicle and pedestrian traffic.

The manufacturer should ensure that the design is such that it is a facility for maintenance. Any components that need to be replaced shall be designed so that they can be easily accommodated and do not affect the optical performance of the signal head.

The nature and selection of materials should be such as to provide the declared performance for a reasonable economic life of the product, as verified by the relevant tests given in this European Standard.

The complete signal head must pass specified tests for impact resistance, structural integrity, penetration and tolerance to temperature, moist heat and solar radiation.
