CAN/ULC S101 Standard Methods for Fire Resistance Tests of Building Construction Materials

Depending on the test requirements and sample type, external uniform loading may be applied to the sample throughout the test period. The oven is operated to expose the sample to the prescribed time temperature curve for the desired exposure time or until applicable criteria are exceeded. For most vertical installations, exposure to a standard fire hose water flow is required and can be performed on two samples.

Performance is defined as the duration of resistance to standard exposure before the first critical point in behavior is observed. These critical points include temperature increase, spread of flame or hot gases, failure to sustain the applied load, etc. may take place. Results are reported in units in which field exposures can be evaluated and expressed.
