The lower limit for measurable thermal resistance is due to the influence of contact thermal resistances, which requires special testing techniques described in this standard. This standard can be used to test high and moderate thermal dry samples. ie for products with a thermal resistance of not less than 0,5 m2 K/W, the simpler procedures of EN 12667 are recommended for such samples.

The limits of the average test temperature are determined only by the materials used in the test. Provides additional limits for equipment performance and test conditions. It does not provide general equipment design procedures, equipment failure analysis, equipment performance control, or evaluation of equipment accuracy.

This standard does not provide general guidance or background information. Due to these limitations, this standard should only be used in conjunction with the product standard for the product to be tested.

While primarily designed for building materials, it can also be used for any material sample that complies with the specified requirements. It can be used for samples made from core material of hollow masonry units, but voids formed in the sample are not allowed.

This standard does not cover measurements on thick products with high and medium thermal resistance.
