ISO 10534-1 Crane Requirements and Test Methods for the Transport of Persons Test Standard

Developed by the International Standards Organization (ISO), the ISO 10534-1 standard specifies requirements and test methods for hoists and body support units for the transportation of disabled people. The standard applies to the following products classified in ISO 9999:

• 12 36 03 Mobile cranes for transporting a person in a sitting position with suspended seats,
• 12 36 04 Mobile cranes for transporting a standing person,
• 12 36 06 Mobile cranes for transporting a person in a sitting position with occupied seats,
• 12 36 09 Mobile cranes for transporting a lying person,
• 12 36 12 Fixed cranes fixed to walls, floor or ceiling,
• 12 36 15 Fixed cranes fixed to or mounted on or on another product,
• 12 36 18 Fixed free standing cranes,
• 12 36 21 Body support units for hoists.

This standard covers different types of mobile and stationary cranes. Some of the requirements and test methods are general and others only apply to specific product types. This document does not apply to devices that move people between two floors of a building. It does not include aging or corrosion detection methods of such elevators and units. It does not include methods for qualifying individual units before use. The requirements of this document are formulated according to the needs of both the people being lifted and the attendant using the elevator.
