In the European standard EN 12941, the requirements for electrical filtering devices with a hood for respiratory protection or a hood containing gas, particulate or combined filters are described and test methods are presented. This standard has been published in our country by the Turkish Standards Institute (TSE) with the following title: EN 12941 Respiratory protective devices - Power-assisted filter devices used with helmets or hoods - Properties, testing and marking.
This standard does not cover devices designed for use in situations where there is or may be oxygen deficient, i.e. oxygen less than 17 percent by volume. It also does not cover protective breathing devices designed for escape purpose.
Specifically, assisted ventilation filtering devices may be full face masks or half face masks that protect against certain gases or vapors, particles (solid or liquid aerosol), or combinations of gas and dust. The filtering device may provide a continuous supply of air or may be connected to breathing. They are classified as TM1, TM2 and TM3 and normally consist of:
