EN 1297 Flexible Sheets for Waterproofing - Bitumen, Plastic and Rubber Sheets for Roof Waterproofing - Artificial Aging Through Long Term Exposure to a Combination of UV Radiation, High Temperature and Water

EUROLAB laboratory provides testing and compliance services within the scope of EN 1297 standard. This International European standard EN 1297 specifies the method for exposing factory-made bitumen or plastic or rubber sheets for roof waterproofing to the combined effects of exposure to water through prolonged UV radiation, high temperature and artificial aging.

Samples cut from the product sample are exposed in an apparatus with a fluorescent UV lamp at the specified irradiance, black standard temperature (BST), relative humidity, and cyclic water spray.

Resistance to this exposure is determined by follow-up tests described in the product standards on flexible bitumen or plastic or rubber sheets for roof waterproofing.

Laboratory Light Source

UV source, mean UV radiation in the plane of the sample surfaces ((45 ± 5 ) W/m²) wavelength range Ȝ ≥ 300 nm. See Figure a.1 for typical spectral radiations. The glow at the test specimen surface should not vary by more than ± 10% with respect to any two points on the specimen holder plane.

Operate the device according to the manufacturer's instructions (for example, replacing lamps and repositioning samples) to achieve homogeneous exposure conditions and use artificial samples in empty humidity during the dry period.

The place where the test specimen racks are to be mounted so that the specimens lie flat ≥ 5° above the horizontal and the exposed face is in the uniform plane of radiation.

Samples shall be bonded to stainless steel plates of at least the same size as the samples by suitable means. It should leave an area open to free irradiation so that subsequent tests can be performed on the irradiated portions of the sample.
