EN 1303 Building Hardware - Cylinders for Locks - Requirements and Test Methods

EUROLAB laboratory provides testing and compliance services within the scope of EN 1303 standard. The EN 1303 standard applies to cylinders and their keys for such locks, normally used in buildings and designed for use with cylinders where the locks have a maximum operating torque of 1,2 Nm.

EN 1303 Building Hardware - Cylinders for Locks - Requirements and Test Methods

This European Standard specifies performance and other requirements for the strength, safety, durability, performance and corrosion resistance of cylinders and original keys. It determines a use category, three degrees of durability, three degrees of fire and four degrees of corrosion resistance, all based on performance tests, plus six degrees of switch-related security and five ratings in performance tests that simulate attack, all based on design requirements.

This European Standard includes satisfactory operating tests at various temperatures. It specifies the test methods to be used on the cylinders and the protective measures associated with these cylinders and recommended by the manufacturer. Corrosion resistance is specified with reference to EN 1670 requirements for corrosion resistance of building equipment.

The suitability of the cylinders for use in fire or smoke door assemblies is determined by the fire performance tests performed in addition to the performance tests required by this standard. Since suitability for use in fire doors is not required in all cases, the manufacturer has the option to specify whether the cylinder complies with these additional requirements.

The fire resistance assessment of class 1 doors is beyond the scope of this document. In some cases, additional functionality may be needed within the design of the cylinder. Buyers should ensure that the products are suitable for their intended use.

The purpose of the test methods described in this standard is to keep human influence on test results to a minimum, thereby improving reproducibility.

Cylinders are to be tested as a single unit, including any reinforcement or protective devices supplied with them. In the case of a double cylinder, attack resistance ratings are assumed to apply to the attack side/outside of the cylinder. On this side, an appropriate phrase will be found on the product or in the documents supplied with the product. If both sides are the same, there is no need to mark the product.
