This European standard specifies a method for measuring the water rejection performance of louvers subjected to simulated rain and wind pressures, with and without air flow through the louver under test.
For the purposes of testing in this standard, a louver cross section of 1000 mm × 1000 mm or the closest possible blade rise is considered. Weather louvres are designed to restrict the passage of water during precipitation and to allow air to enter or flow through an air distribution system or part of a building.
They are used in a wide variety of applications where differences in wind speed and direction, local turbulence levels, speed and droplet size, precipitation distribution, and surface water runoff from the surrounding structure can occur. It is impractical to consider a standard test procedure that simulates all possible conditions, but this standard provides heavy rainfall directed to the louver surface with simulated wind pressures.
This provides a common basis for comparing the water rejection performance of air louvres of different designs. This standard is not designed to evaluate the air performance of pressure relief dampers.
The purpose of the tests included in this European Standard is as follows:
Air tests: To determine the effectiveness of the louver when exposed to wind pressure at various airflow rates.
Discharge and inlet loss coefficient/pressure requirements: To determine the air pressure loss at various air flow rates through the air louver and by calculating the Evacuation and Inlet Loss Coefficient.
