EN 13251 Test Standard for Geotextiles and Geotextile-Related Products

This European Standard specifies the relevant properties of geotextiles and geotextile-related products used in earthworks, foundations and retaining structures, and the appropriate test methods to determine these properties.

Purpose of use of these geotextiles or geotextile related products, filtration,
performing one or more of the separation and strengthening functions

The split function is always used. Along with filtration or reinforcement, accordingly separation will never be specified in isolation. This standard cannot be applied to geomembranes.

This standard provides the evaluation of product conformity with this European Standard and factory production control procedures.

This standard defines the requirements that must be met by manufacturers and distributors regarding the presentation of product specifications.

Special application cases or national specifications may include requirements for additional specifications and – preferably standardized – test methods if technically relevant and in conflict with European Standards.

For the purposes of this European Standard, the term definitions of ISO 10318 apply. The term product used in this standard refers to a geotextile or a geotextile related product.

The main functions of geotextiles and geotextile-related products used in earthworks, foundations and retaining structures are filtering, separation and reinforcement. If a drainage or erosion control system is integrated into the construction, the requirements of the relevant standards will also be met.
