EN 13057 Products and Systems for the Protection and Repair of Concrete Structures, Test Methods, Standard Test for Determination of Capillary Suction Resistance

Specifies a method for determining the resistance of repair products and systems to water absorption, as defined in EN 1504-3.

The method is based on measuring the increase in weight due to capillary water absorption over a fixed time interval. The weight of the absorbed water is expressed as a coefficient showing the tendency of the sample to absorb water by capillary action without the application of external pressure.

The test method is applicable to the repair of mortar, mortar or concrete specimens. Hereinafter, the term mortar sample also refers to concrete unless otherwise stated.

Resistance to capillary suction is measured on the troweled top surface of 20 mm diameter cylindrical mortar samples with a thickness of at least 100 mm or three times the maximum aggregate size, whichever is greater. Alternatively, the cut face of 100 mm diameter repair mortar cores can be used.
