EUROLAB laboratory provides testing and compliance services within the scope of EN ISO 6383-2 standard. This part of EN ISO 6383 specifies the method for determining the force required to propagate a tear at a specified distance and through a specified slit in a test sample of a thin flexible plastic sheet or film under specified loading conditions.
Applies to the following reactor types:
The upper limit of the thickness to be tested depends on the tear strength of the material relative to the capacity of the testing machine.
Materials to be tested according to this method include flexible polyvinyl chloride (PVC) and polyolefin films, but the variable elongation and oblique tear effects on more extensible films can result in poor repeatability of test results. This method may not be suitable for testing tougher materials such as rigid PVC, nylon and Polyester films.
The tear resistance test specified by this method is applied to samples taken from semi-finished and finished products. The test is suitable for production and control of manufactured products as well as acceptance or rejection testing under specifications for semi-finished and finished products, provided that the data for a given material can be shown to be acceptably reproducible.
