EN 13501-2 Fire Classification of Building Materials and Structural Elements - Part 2: Classification of Data from Fire Resistance Tests

EUROLAB laboratory provides testing and compliance services within the scope of EN 13501-2 standard. This part of the 13501 standard describes the process of classifying construction products and structural elements using data obtained from fire resistance and smoke leakage tests, which are directly within the scope of application of the relevant test method.

EN 13501-2 Fire Classification of Building Materials and Structural Elements - Part 2: Classification of Data from Fire Resistance Tests

This standard mainly relates to the following components:

  • Load-bearing elements such as walls, floors, roofs, beams, columns, balconies, walkways and stairs without fire separation function
  • Walls, floors, roofs and raised floors with fire separation function
  • Protection elements such as ceilings without independent fire resistance and fire protection coatings
  • Non-load bearing systems such as partitions, facades (curtain walls) and external walls, independent fire-resistant ceilings, fire doors and shutters and their closing systems, smoke control doors, conveyor systems and closures, penetration seals, linear joint seals, service channels and shafts and chimneys elements or workpieces
  • Wall and ceiling coverings with fire protection

Elevator landing doors tested according to EN 81-58 standard are not included in this standard. Elevator landing doors are tested according to EN 1634-1 standard and classified separately.

The purpose of this European Standard is to define a harmonized procedure for the fire resistance classification of building materials and building elements. This classification is based on test procedures and the relevant application procedures area.

This European Standard was prepared in support of the second essential requirement in the EC Construction Products Regulation (305/2011) and is detailed in Interpretive Document number 2 (ID2): Safety in the event of fire (OJC62 Volume 37).

This European Standard provides a common understanding for these requirements. Interprets the functional requirements for different groups of structural elements and explains the method of deriving their classification on the basis of test results or extended application results for individual elements.
