EN 1366-3 Fire Resistance Tests for Service Installations, Penetration Gaskets

EUROLAB, with its state-of-the-art accredited laboratories and expert team, provides precise and fast testing services within the scope of EN 1366-3 testing. This standard specifies a test method and criteria for assessing the ability of a penetration gasket to maintain the fire resistance of a separating element in the punctured location (including within the scope of direct application rules).

EN 1366-3 Fire Resistance Tests for Service Installations, Penetration Gaskets

Sealing gaskets used to insulate gaps around chimneys, ventilation systems, fire resistant ventilation ducts, fire resistant service ducts, shafts and smoke extraction ducts and combined transition sealing gaskets are excluded from this part of the EN 1366 series.

It deals with penetration seals, including ducts and dampers. This standard uses supporting structures to represent separating elements such as walls or floors. They simulate in practice the interaction between the test specimen and the separating element into which the sealing system is to be installed.

No information can be implied by testing regarding the effect of such penetrations and the inclusion of penetration seals on the load carrying capacity of the separating element. In all cases, the lintel above a transition seal in the wall is designed in the hot and cold condition so that no additional vertical load is exerted on the transition seal. The purpose of this test is not to provide quantitative information on the leakage rate of smoke or hot gases, or the transmission or production of fumes. Such phenomena are noted in the test report only when describing the general behavior of test specimens during testing.

The tests in accordance with this standard are not intended to provide any information on the ability of the penetration seal to withstand stress caused by movements or displacements of penetrating services. The risk of fire spreading downward, e.g. caused by burning material dripping from a pipe to the floors below, is currently outside of this document. Tests in accordance with this standard do not address the risks associated with hazardous liquid or gas leaks caused by piping failure in the event of a fire. Pneumatic propulsion systems, compressed air systems, etc. Tests conforming to this part of the EN 1366 series pipe seals for pipes simulate a situation where systems are shut down in the event of a fire.
