EN 13706-1 Reinforced Plastic Composites - Specifications for Pultrude Profiles

EUROLAB laboratory provides testing and compliance services within the scope of EN 13706-1 standard. This part of the EN 13706 standard only applies to pultrude profiles for structural purposes defined as the load bearing capability is the main criterion of the design and the product is part of a load bearing system according to the standard.

EN 13706-1 Reinforced Plastic Composites - Specifications for Pultrude Profiles

The types of pultrusion profiles are distinguished from each other by a classification system based on information on the type of polymer matrix used, the reinforcement material, the type of reinforcement and additional in-service performance properties (eg fire retardancy, UV stability).

This European Standard is only applicable to pultrude profiles made of fiber-reinforced plastic composites. It applies to ready-to-use materials in straight section lengths or in coils for structural applications.

This Part 13706 of EN 1 does not provide engineering data, performance data, or data on service conditions that may be required to specify a profile for a particular application. If such additional features are required, they should be determined, where possible, according to the test methods specified in EN 13706 Part 2.

The standard specifies the minimum requirements for the quality, tolerances, strength, stiffness and surface of structural profiles. EN 13706-1 basically divides pultrude structural profiles into two classes:

  • E23 – having the strictest requirements for quality
  • E17 – have more flexible requirements for quality

Fiberline structural profiles meet or exceed the requirements of class E23. Except for the diagonal strength of up to 35 MPa due to the extra flame retardants, the gray profiles meet the E23 class in all respects. Efforts are underway to expand the standard to include guidelines on chemical resistance and fire-related specifications of structural profiles.
