EN 13772 Textiles and Textile Products - Curtains and Drapes - Measurement of Flame Propagation of Vertically Oriented Samples with Large Ignition Source

EUROLAB, with its state-of-the-art accredited laboratories and expert team, provides precise and fast testing services within the scope of EN 13772 testing. This European standard specifies a method for measuring flame propagation using a large ignition source of vertically oriented textile fabrics intended for curtains and drapes in the form of single or multi-component (coated, quilted, multi-layered, sandwich construction and similar combinations) fabrics.

EN 13772 Textiles and Textile Products - Curtains and Drapes - Measurement of Flame Propagation of Vertically Oriented Samples with Large Ignition Source

EN ISO 6941 measures the flame spread of vertically oriented samples exposed to a defined small flame. This allows the flame spread characteristics of flammable products to be determined.

However, this test method is not suitable for evaluating non-flammable products. The measurement of the length or area destroyed by the small flame can be questioned as demonstrated by the round robin test. Products that pass the small flame test run the risk of igniting with a larger ignition source.

Therefore, the equipment used in EN ISO 6941 has been modified by adding a radiating radiator at the bottom of the sample to increase local and temporary ignition of the sample. The combination of this radiation and small flame application simulates the action from a larger flame source.

With this combined ignition source, some materials that cannot be ignited by a small flame can ignite. Some of these will self-extinguish when the effect from the ignition source is over, while others will self-radiate.

The formation of flaming residues, the separation of the marker threads and the breaking time of the marker threads (first and third threads) were chosen as representative parameters to evaluate the burning behavior of the samples.

Other combustion behavior properties, such as post-flame and post-glare times, did not bring in any extra relevant information and were discarded.
