This European standard specifies requirements for the functional and aesthetic properties of vitreous or porcelain enamel coatings applied to flat steel for use as writing surfaces (whiteboards and chalkboards).
Vitreous or porcelain enamel is a glazed surface finish designed to be applied to metallic surfaces for protective, functional or decorative purposes. It is produced by applying powdered inorganic glass to the metal surface, either dry or suspended in water, followed by fusion bonding.
The fused coating exhibits cubic thermal expansion between 20K and 100 x 150-450 K over the temperature range of 10ºC to 7ºC; the actual value varies specifically with the substrate type and application area.
When tested according to EN ISO 2178, the enamel thickness on the outside of the product will be a maximum of 250 µm for whiteboards and a maximum of 200 µm for blackboards.
When shockproof is tested according to ISO 4532 and the gun is operated with a load of 20 N, there will be no damage of 24 mm diameter after 2 hours.
