EN 15344 Plastics - Test Standard for Characterization of Polyethylene (PE) Recycled Products

EUROLAB laboratory provides testing and compliance services within the scope of EN 15344 standard. This standard defines the method for determining delivery conditions for polyethylene (PE) recycling products. It gives the most important characteristics and relevant test methods for the evaluation of PE recycling materials intended for use in the production of semi-finished products.

EN 15344 Plastics - Test Standard for Characterization of Polyethylene (PE) Recycled Products

It aims to support parties involved in the use of recycled PE to agree on specifications for specific and general applications. This standard is valid without prejudice to any existing legislation. This standard does not cover the characterization of plastic waste.

Recycling plastic waste is a type of material recovery aimed at minimizing harmful emissions to air, water and soil, as well as impacts on human health, while conserving resources (raw materials, water and energy).
is the process. The environmental impact of recycling must be evaluated over the entire life cycle of the recycling system (from the point of waste generation to the disposal of final residues).

To ensure that recycling constitutes the best environmental option for the treatment of existing waste, some prerequisites should preferably be met: The designed recycling scheme must produce lower environmental impacts than alternative recycling options, Existing or potential marketplaces that will ensure a sustainable industrial production collection and separation schemes should be appropriately designed to deliver fractions of recyclable plastic waste that reasonably fit the (changing) needs of identified market outlets and existing recycling technologies, preferably at minimal cost to the community.

This document has been produced in accordance with CEN established guidance on Environmental Aspects and in accordance with CEN/TR 15353, Plastics — Recycled plastics — Guidelines for the development of standards for recycled plastics.

To ensure the legal use of recycling, the supplier shall provide the necessary information on the material composition of the recycling as specified by the buyer.

A single batch is the amount of PE recycling with homogeneous properties within the specified tolerances. The characteristics of the PE recycling products to be determined for each batch are specified and divided into two types:

  • Required characteristics required to identify PE recycling products in general and required for all recycling products
  • Optional features and applications required to define PE recycles to customer specifications
