EN 15426 Waxes - Specification for Sooting Behavior

EUROLAB laboratory provides testing and compliance services within the scope of EN 15426 standard. This standard specifies the requirements and test method for evaluating the sooting behavior of lit indoor candles. It can be applied to single wick candles with a diameter of 100 mm or equivalent cross-sectional area intended to be lit indoors.

EN 15426 Waxes - Specification for Sooting Behavior

Single-wick candles and multi-wick candles with a diameter greater than 100 mm or equivalent cross-section cannot be evaluated with this test method for technical reasons. Evaluation of visible soot release is a possibility for these waxes.

Tests in accordance with EN 15426 should be carried out to check that the waxes comply with this CEN standard in terms of soot behavior. Meeting the requirements of this standard can assist in due diligence in complying with the UK General Product Safety Directive (GPSD) and is often requested by retailers.

To pass this test, your candles must have an average soot index per hour of less than 1.0. To test the candles according to EN 15426, 3 finished candles are needed. Candles must be packaged as sold, with instructions/labels for use.

EN 154426 (2018) applies only to single-wick candles. There is currently no soot test standard for multi-wick candles. The lead time for soot testing is typically 5 working days after receipt of the candles.
