EN 1568-2 Fire Extinguisher - Foam Concentrates - Part 2: Specifications for High Expansion Foam Concentrates for Surface Application to Immiscible Liquids

EUROLAB laboratory provides testing and compliance services within the scope of EN 1568-2 standard. This part of the EN 1568 standard specifies the chemical and physical properties and minimum performance requirements of high-expansion foams suitable for surface application to water-immiscible liquids. Requirements for marking are also given.

Any type approval according to this standard becomes void if there is any change in the composition of the approved product. Some concentrates conforming to this part of EN 1568 may also be suitable for other parts and may therefore also be suitable for application as low and/or medium expansion foams.

Any type approval according to this standard becomes void if there is any change in the composition of the approved product. Some concentrates conforming to this part of EN 1568 may also be suitable for other parts and may therefore also be suitable for application as medium and/or high expansion foams and for low expansion application to water-miscible liquids.

Since fire extinguishing foams are chemicals or chemical preparations, Commission Directive 2000/60/CE and Regulations (EC) No 1272/2008 (CLP) and 1907/2006 (REACH) apply and should be observed.

Firefighting foams are widely used to control and extinguish Class B fires and to prevent re-ignition. These foams can also be used to prevent ignition of flammable liquids and to extinguish Class A fires under certain conditions.

Foams can be used with other extinguishing agents, especially gaseous media and powders subject to other European standards. Foam concentrates of different types and production should not be mixed.

These specifications are designed to ensure that the extinguishing medium has minimal useful fire fighting capability. The user must ensure that the foam concentrates are used correctly at the concentration recommended by the manufacturer. The fire performances specified by this standard cannot reproduce practical fire situations.

It should be noted that some combinations of extinguishing powder and foam can result in unacceptable loss of efficiency due to adverse interaction of the chosen medium when applied simultaneously or sequentially to the fire.
