EN 15777 Textiles - Test Method for Phthalates

This standard specifies a test method for taking test samples, removing phthalates from material, and chemical analysis. This method is applied to textiles where there is a risk of some phthalates being present.

EN 15777 Textiles - Test Method for Phthalates

The purpose of the method is to remove phthalates from textiles and related accessories. This method uses the soxhlet extraction apparatus with n-hexane as the solvent. However, any apparatus providing extraction equivalent to a soxhlet can be used.

Total n-hexane extractable phthalate plasticizer content is calculated by weight by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry detection to identify and quantify individual phthalates.

Accurately weigh (2,0 ± 0,1) g of pieces of a representative sample onto a soxhlet thimble and add a disc of filter paper to the top of the thimble. Each sample is extracted in duplicate and a blank is run to check for contamination.
