EUROLAB laboratory provides testing and compliance services within the scope of EN 15870 standard. This European standard specifies a method for determining the bond strength of a butt joint when subjected to tensile forces.
The method can be applied to any type of adhesive. Although primarily intended for use under ambient conditions, the basic method can also be applied to testing under a wide temperature range and other environmental conditions.
The method requires rigid adhesives that can be produced to the required dimensional tolerances and withstand the forces applied to them during testing.
A joint consisting of two rods or rods glued together by faces normal to their length is stretched to break by a tensile force applied along the long axis of the test specimen. The reported result is the force observed at break.
The testing machine shall comply with Class 7500 of the testing machine EN ISO 1-1. In addition, the response time of the machine must be short enough not to affect the accuracy with which the force applied at break can be measured. The recorded force should not differ by more than 1% from the actual force applied. The machine must be able to exert an increasing pulling force at a constant rate.
It will be provided with a suitable pair of self-aligning jaws to hold the sample. The jaws should be formed to align with the test specimen as soon as the load is applied so that the long axis of the test specimen coincides with the direction of the applied force along the centerline of the grip assembly.
For comparison of adhesives and interlaboratory testing, the two adhesives must be of the same material and strong enough to prevent significant deformations. For other purposes, the two adhesives may differ.
