EN 1607 Thermal Insulation Products for Building Applications - Determination of Tensile Strength Perpendicular to Faces

EUROLAB laboratory provides testing and compliance services within the scope of EN 1607 standard. The EN 1607 standard specifies equipment and procedures for determining the tensile strength of a product perpendicular to the face. Applicable to thermal insulation products. This standard can be used to determine whether the product has sufficient strength to withstand the stresses during transport and application.

EN 1607 Thermal Insulation Products for Building Applications - Determination of Tensile Strength Perpendicular to Faces

A test specimen is inserted between two rigid plates or blocks, fixed in a tensile testing machine and separated at a certain speed. The maximum tensile strength is recorded and the tensile strength of the test specimen is calculated.

A tensile tester is used, which is suitable for the relevant force and displacement range, has a constant crosshead speed set to (10 ± 1) mm/min, and can measure the force with an accuracy of ± 1%. The specimen should be followed by the self-aligning attachment to avoid uneven distribution of tensile stress during testing.

Adhesive used to adhere the test specimen between rigid plates or blocks:

The adhesive must not strengthen or damage the surface layers of the product.
Hot adhesives should be avoided if they will damage the product.
Any solvent used will be compatible with the product.

Any test equipment that provides the same result with at least the same accuracy can be used. The thickness of the test specimens should be equal to the original product thickness, including any coatings, coatings or coatings. The test specimens will be square prisms with sides of the following recommended dimensions:

  • 50mm × 50mm or
  • 100mm × 100mm or
  • 150mm × 150mm or
  • 200mm × 200mm or
  • 300mm × 300mm.

The dimensions used will be as specified in the relevant product standard. In the absence of a product standard or other European technical specification, the dimensions of the test samples can be agreed between the parties. Linear dimensions shall be determined according to EN 12085 with an accuracy of ± 0,5 %.
