EN 16122 Home and Outdoor Storage Furniture - Test Methods for Determining Strength, Durability and Stability

EUROLAB laboratory provides testing and compliance services within the scope of EN 16122 standard. The EN 16122 standard covers test methods for the determination of strength, durability and stability for all types of domestic and non-domestic storage furniture, including domestic kitchen furniture. It does not apply to office, industrial, catering equipment and retail storage or industrial storage.

EN 16122 Home and Outdoor Storage Furniture - Test Methods for Determining Strength, Durability and Stability

Strength and durability tests do not evaluate the structure of the building (eg the strength of wall-hung cabinets); instead they only include cabinets and fittings used for attachment. Wall and wall attachments are not included in this European standard.

Safety, strength and durability requirements can be found in other European Standards. Evaluation of the effects of aging, deterioration and flammability is not included in this European standard. This European standard is to evaluate the coupling of the competitive storage unit, not the attachment of individual elements within the unit.

General Stability tests should be performed with the unit placed on the test floor. Units designed to lean against a wall will not be tested in the rear direction. The wheels and height adjustment devices will be in the position where they are most likely to cause the unit to topple over.

Doors, extensions and flaps closed, all storage units unloaded
Units that can be adjusted to a height of 1000 mm or less, the vertical force indicated through the loading pad can cause top surface tipping, which moves 50 mm from the outer edge of the unit at any point. It should be registered if the unit is tipping over or is supported by an open extension member, open door, or open leaf.

Units that can be adjusted to a height of more than 1000 mm, at any point acting 50 mm from the outer edge of the unit, the specified vertical force is applied to the top surface together with the outward horizontal force. It should be registered if the unit is tipping over or is supported by an open extension member, open door, or open leaf.

When two or more doors are installed with opening doors, extensions and flaps, all storage units emptied, the test should be performed on one closed door and the other door opened 90°. If doors and flaps provide access to other extension members or flaps, they should be opened during the test.
