EN 17317 Flexible, Textile, Laminate and Modular Mechanically Interlocking Floor Coverings - Light Reflectance Value (LRV) of a Flooring Surface

EUROLAB, with its state-of-the-art accredited laboratories and expert team, provides precise and fast testing services within the scope of EN 17317 testing. This standard specifies a test and calculation method for flexible, textile, laminate and modular mechanical interlocking floor coverings.

EN 17317 Flexible, Textile, Laminate and Modular Mechanically Interlocking Floor Coverings - Light Reflectance Value (LRV) of a Flooring Surface

This standard is also intended to provide guidance for manufacturers, specifiers and consumers to enable them to select the appropriate performance of the floor covering in relation to the light reflectance of the use surface.

The amount of light reflected from the surface will be measured in a series of wavelengths evenly spaced along the visible spectrum. These measurements will include the spectral component of the reflected light.

The axis of the reflected beam must be 8° from the normal to the center of the sample plane in which the sample is placed during measurements. The reduction in sphere efficiency due to sample absorption will be corrected to produce a linear output.

When using a single beam-integrated sphere, processing of the outputs should include a correction for the reduction in sphere efficiency caused by sample absorption. Without such correction, the device will give a non-linear output.

The surface of the samples must be clean and representative of the surface of the material. There will be no print marks or foreign matter on the surface of the samples to be tested. Cut pile carpets (textile floor coverings) should be brushed with a clothes brush in the natural pile alignment direction before measuring.

If there is a concern about the stability of a sample's color and appearance during the test period, the sample will not be measured. The device must be able to measure a 10° field of view (Y10 or 10° standard colorimetric observer). The samples must be large enough to extend beyond the measuring area of the instrument.
